The opening reception of EXPRESS YOUR MAGIC was nothing short of magical. It was an absolute joy to share all of the original artwork from La Caribeña Oracle with the public for the first time. Seeing nearly 200 attendees fill the gallery with energy, excitement, and curiosity was an experience I’ll never forget. I must have had over 100 conversations, each one reminding me why art and expressing my magic is my life’s purpose.

I met strangers who asked thoughtful questions about the art, reconnected with old friends I hadn’t seen in years, shared empanadas with fellow Connecticut artists like Kerstin Rao, and took photos with family members seeing my paintings for the very first time.
One of the most touching parts of the evening was witnessing just how deeply the art resonated with people. Some came to me with teary eyes, sharing how moved they were by the paintings and the affirmations written beneath each one—mirroring the messages in the oracle deck’s guidebook. It was so special to watch people connect with the deck beyond the cards—to experience its energy in a new and immersive way.

Of course, it’s no secret that La Caribeña Oracle is a celebration of Dominican and Afro-Caribbean culture, and it fills me with so much joy to share that with my community. From the vibrant artwork on the walls to the Latin food we served and the music playing in the background, every detail of the night was infused with culture, pride, and love.

Adding to the magic was the incredible Maria del Carmen leading a sound healing session, bringing a deeply spiritual and meditative layer to the space. And, of course, it was an honor to share the gallery with so many amazing artists—I’m beyond proud that several of our works found new homes that night! We were also very well-fed, thanks to my family’s market—New Britain Market (located at 345 Broad Street, New Britain, CT)—who provided the most incredible food that added even more warmth to the night. If you want yummy foods, look no further!
One of my favorite moments of the evening happened during the Q&A with the artists, when Saedi McLaughlin shared a beautiful perspective on self-expression:

"Anything can be art—the makeup we wear, the clothes we choose, the way we walk. We are both the artist and the art."
That sentiment landed deeply with so many of us in the room. The night was filled with Connecticut artists and art lovers and collectors who came together to celebrate, share, and connect. The love and support were overwhelming in the best possible way.
I am beyond grateful to everyone who attended and made this event so special.
