Peace: Finding Stillness in the Middle of Life

Peace is one of those things people think they’ll get someday.
After the chaos settles. After the big problem is solved. After life finally slows down.
But the truth is, peace rarely arrives like that.
Peace is a painting about the moment you realize calm isn’t something waiting for you in the future. It’s something you create in the present.
In this piece, a woman sits quietly with her hair gathered above her head. But instead of strands of hair, the top of her head transforms into earth and flowing water. The landscape rises into a peaceful river, distant mountains, and open sky.
It’s a reminder that our inner world and the natural world are not separate.
When I painted this piece, I kept thinking about the small rituals that bring me back to myself. A slow cafecito in the morning. Feeling the breeze on my skin. Sitting near water and letting my thoughts settle.
Peace often lives in those tiny moments.
Not in escaping life’s ups and downs, but in learning how to move through them with presence.
The water in the painting represents that flow. Water doesn’t fight the shape of the land. It moves with it. It bends, adapts, and keeps going.
There’s wisdom in that.
Sometimes peace is simply allowing ourselves to soften instead of resisting everything we can’t control.
