Gratitude: The Power of Slowing Down

There is a quiet strength in the practice of gratitude.
Not the kind that forces positivity or pretends everything is perfect. The real kind. The kind that softens your grip on control and helps you trust that life is unfolding the way it needs to.
That energy lives at the heart of Gratitude.
In this painting, a woman rests with her eyes closed, her posture calm and grounded. A white orchid sits gently in her hair. Above her, a sloth hangs from a leafy branch, moving at its own slow, deliberate pace.
The sloth became an important symbol while I was creating this piece. Sloths don’t rush. They move slowly, intentionally, and without apology for their rhythm. There’s wisdom in that. A reminder that life doesn’t have to be forced or hurried to be meaningful.
Gratitude often asks us to do the same thing. To pause. To breathe. To notice what is already here instead of constantly reaching for what comes next.
The woman in this painting represents that moment of surrender. Her eyes are closed, not in avoidance, but in trust. Trust in the process of life. Trust in her own worth. Trust that she doesn’t need to fight so hard to receive what is meant for her.
The natural wood grain behind her is left visible on purpose. I love allowing the marks, knots, and textures of the wood to remain part of the piece. It reminds me that imperfection and history are part of the beauty. Nothing has to be polished to be powerful.
This painting is also featured on the GRATITUDE card of La Caribeña Oracle Deck, where it represents the practice of releasing control and welcoming life with appreciation and trust.
To me, gratitude is not just about saying thank you for what we have. It’s about recognizing that we are worthy of receiving good things in the first place.
Sometimes the most powerful shift we can make is simply allowing ourselves to slow down enough to notice the abundance already around us.
Curious if this piece is still available?
